In its effort to create Freedom at Work [1], the ILRF seeks to bring international attention to cases where worker’s rights to organize are being repressed. Freedom of association and the right to form labor unions make up one of the four fundamental standards recognized by the International Labor Organization (ILO).
- Convention 87 - Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention [2], guarantees that workers and employers, without distinction whatsoever, shall have the right to establish and to join organizations of their own choosing without previous authorization.
- Convention 98 - Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention [3], protects all workers against acts of anti-union discrimination
The abuse of contract labor [4] and employment agencies has become a growing problem for the survival and strengthening of unions.
- Convention No. 181 [5] on Private Employment Agencies can be used as a tool to ensure that all workers, including those outsourced by agencies have the same rights, including the right to organize.
