Join ILRF for dinner and discussion hosted by the Global March Against Child Labor and the Child Labor Coalition at Busboys & Poets 5th and K, a progressive D.C. restaurant, for an event profiling efforts to end child labor. This public event is an opportunity to meet some of the dozens of people who have traveled from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe to Washington, DC for the Global March Against Child Labour’s international conference on child labor in agriculture.
Filmmaker Robin Romano will emcee the event and show a clip from his film, "The Dark Side of Chocolate," about child labor in West Africa.
Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) President Baldemar Velasquez will speak about some of the FLOC's union activities aimed at improving the lives of farmworkers. Baldemar will play music and songs from the farmworker and union community with accompanist Rolando Revilla Jr.
Norma Flores Lopez, the Director of the Children in the Fields Campaign, with the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs will speak about efforts to protect children from child labor in U.S. agriculture. Norma will co-present with three farmworker youth who will talk about the impact child labor has had on their lives.
Bhuwan Ribhu from Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) will show a short clip on child labor in India and speak about efforts to reduce child labor in India.
The event is free. Attendees are responsible for their own food and drink purchases.
