The victory of more than a decade of activism by United Students Against Sweatshops in solidarity with worker organizing, Alta Gracia is a ground-breaking garment factory in the Dominican Republic that produces college apparel and pays a living-wage of over three times the local minimum wage. Workers at Alta Gracia are treated with respect and have an independent union -- a voice on the job.
Hear from Maritza Vargas and Ana Doñe Mariñez, garment workers whose families and community are being transformed by living wages and international solidarity. The Alta Gracia factory is monitored by the independent labor rights watchdog, the Worker Rights Consortium, and supplies logo clothing sold in bookstores at 350 universities and custom-imprinted logo tees are available via the distributor Ethix Merch [1].
