Action in Chicago: Call on Hershey to Raise the Bar!
Event ends: October 22, 2011 3:00 pm
The Raise the Bar Hershey Campaign and Chicago Fair Trade are organizing small action (approx. 20 people) at the Hershey Store in Chicago. There will be simultaneous events in New York, Chicago and Niagara Falls on Saturday, October 22nd from 12:00-3:00pm. Volunteers will be collecting signatures and handing out information on Fair Trade. The signatures from all three events will be hand delivered to Hershey by the Raise the Bar Campaign during Halloween week. Raise the Bar is a coalition of three organizations: Green America, Global Exchange, and the International Labor Rights Forum
Hershey--despite having a market share of over 40%--is doing the least in the area of Fair Trade, to prevent abusive child labor. Furthermore, Hershey was recently in the news for the conditions their warehouse workers face. The timing seems perfect to continue pressuring Hershey to be responsible for its products.
We are looking for volunteers to attend this event and collect signatures. Please Contact Martin Macias Jr from Chicago Fair Trade if you’re available. martin.macias@chicagofairtrade.org
WHAT TO BRING Petitions and handouts will be provided to you—please bring a clipboard, pen, drink for yourself and an umbrella (just in case). This event is informational—we will not be picketing so signs are not necessary.
IS THIS LEGAL? The sidewalk is public property and therefore we have the right to assemble outside the store.
QUESTIONS? Contact Martin Macias or Elizabeth O’Connell.
