Niger's privately owned press will begin a one-week strike Monday in a bid to reverse a presidential decree that provides for sanctions against the media without warning, media bodies said.

And they will be joined by radio and television stations for one day.

Six independent newspapers announced the strike in a joint statement Thursday, as "a bid to demand for a pure and simple abrogation of that wicked decision."...
